Information

We will have plenty of 7-9 foot tall Fraser Firs and Douglas fir to be cut in the field this year. The taller 9ft trees will probably be cut the first weekend as that is what has happened in the past. We will have 7-12 ft tall precuts Frasers, Korean and Concolor Fir displayed under our five tents and standing in water bowls. The tents hold 120 trees displayed on pin stands. We strive to have the freshest trees possible. We accomplish this by keeping them out of the sun and wind and allow them to take up water from the bowls to guarantee they are well hydrated.

The wreath room (on the left side of the building) will allow more wreaths and roping to be displayed out of the weather and within easy view for our customers. In order to provide longer lasting wreaths we will now have wreaths made out of Noble Fir as well as our tried and true Fraser Fir. The Noble Fir is from the west coast as Noble will not grow in our climate. Our North Pole train display is completely new with more features to enjoy. The front porch will allow everyone to stay out of the weather and enjoy the view.

*The Cocoa Stop will be open as normal and the picnic tables will be available again this year.

The bonfire will be going all day (weather permitting) for everyone to enjoy while having, s’mores, hot chocolate, hot dogs, or our famous cupcakes.

Our trees are looking great and we have several new fields open. We have Fraser Fir and, Douglas Fir. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again.

History

Winterfarm is a Choose-and-Cut Christmas Tree farm located near Jarrettsville, Maryland.  Our farm consists of over 54 acres of gently rolling topography along St. Clair Bridge Road and has been owned by the family for over 120 years. We are part of the Harford County Agricultural Land Preservation Program.

Proprietor Gary Thomas was born the same year his father, Jim Thomas, began growing Christmas trees to sell on Goat Road near Aberdeen. As Gary’s father gained evergreen farming knowledge and honed his craft, Gary’s uncle Lee Thomas, also growing Christmas trees in Aberdeen, nurtured in his nephew a love of growing all things. After a lifetime of learning from both, Gary is considered among his peers to be an authority on growing Christmas trees. He specializes in Fraser fir, Winterfarm’s largest crop.

Our farm has won numerous awards for Fraser Firs during the twenty-plus years since the variety was added as a crop. In 2018 we won first prize at the Maryland State Fair, Harford County Fair, and Reserve Grand Champion at the Mason Dixon Fair, all for our Fraser Firs.  In 2018 we won the Grand Champion prize at the Harford County Fair.  We believe we have some of the prettiest Fraser Firs. In 2021 County Living Magazine honored our farm with being listed as one of the 32 Best Christmas Tree Farms in America.
